When should I begin contacting moving companies for estimates?

Try to provide the moving companies with as much notice as possible, especially if you are moving during the busy season (May-August). Six weeks from the actual move date is not too early for estimators to come into your home to complete what they refer to as a “visual survey of your household goods shipment.” Try to decide which mover you will use at least two weeks from your actual load day. Call the mover to confirm your booking and schedule your packing, loading and delivery dates.

How much will my move cost me?

Each move is different; therefore there is no standard cost. For the best move price, it is recommended that you have an estimator come into your home to complete a visual survey of your household goods. You may also submit an online estimate via our website (www.xdmoving.com/get-estimate) for an approximate move price.

How is the cost of my shipment calculated?

The charges are based on the weight of your shipment and mileage. Some additional charges that may appear include packing, crating, valuation or coverage, bulky article charge for oversized items and extra labor. Be certain you understand these charges so that you can accurately compare the estimates you receive.

Can I pack anything in the drawers of my dresser or desk?

Clothing can remain in drawers of dressers; however, all other loose items need to be packed in boxes to prevent loss or damage. It is recommended that all items be removed from desk drawers.

How do I estimate the number of boxes that I will have?

If you haven’t started packing yet, you’ll need to guess on the number of boxes you’ll have per room. If you are still unsure, a XD Moving Solutions estimator can help with this.

Will the driver load all the boxes that I packed?

Yes, as long as the driver deems them safe for transport. Should any boxes appear damaged or unstable prior to loading, the driver will notify you of the condition.

Are there any restrictions when it comes to packing?

If you are packing yourself, it is your responsibility to make sure that you have not packed anything that is not allowed to be moved. If you’re not sure, ask your personal mover for a list of those items before you start packing. You can also find a list of restricted items online.
If you are utilizing the packing service of XD Moving Solutions, our expert packers will discuss any items that are restricted with you.

Can I pack and move my plants?

If you are moving across town, we will gladly move your plants for you. However, please note, the stress and heat of being inside of the moving trailer usually causes them to die; therefore our insurance does not cover plants.

If you are moving to another state, many states do not allow the entry of plants while other states will admit plants under certain conditions. There are some states that have no regulations at all. Be sure to understand your state’s regulations prior to moving the plants in your own vehicle.

What should I do with my jewelry and other valuable items?

Items of extraordinary value such as jewelry, money, antiques and stamp collections can be included in your shipment, provided that you notify your local moving representative of these items before packing and moving day. It is strongly recommended that you carry irreplaceable and expensive articles with you or make other arrangements for their transport.

In the moving industry, items worth more than $100 per pound are considered to be articles of “extraordinary” value. To be assured that a claim involving these articles is not limited to minimal liability, speak with your personal mover regarding an additional insurance policy.

Each mover has a slightly different procedure to follow as it relates to high value items. Ask your personal mover to provide you with an explanation of their process. This is a confusing but important task, so make sure that you clearly understand the rules prior to load day.

How do I prepare my appliances for moving?

Appliances such as washers, dryers and refrigerators must be unloaded of their contents and disconnected.

How will XD Moving Solutions protect my furniture?

XD Moving Solutions will protect your furniture the best way possible with blankets and shrink-wrap.

Am I protected against loss or damage while my goods are in transit?

Yes, XD Moving Solutions is insured for up to $25,000 in transit and cargo insurance. Speak with your personal mover regarding our insurance policy.
